Paganism ftw
Pooka the dog as my Daimon at Treadwell’s
HELLO
I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.
NEWS
After a cancelled flight yesterday, I’m off to Lisbon this afternoon. I love the idea of ‘improv, and…’ behind this edition and I’m excited to see lots of crossover with other arts and ideas.
I’ve been writing for Cards Against Humanity again this week which is always fun. I’ve handed in the final draft of my play The Ice at the End of the World and I’ll be sending an extra email when tickets go on sale in a few days… I’ve been recording a kids’ radio show with Fun Kids in Nottingham and it was dreamy.
I’m currently the artist in residence at Treadwell’s, which is a beautiful occult bookshop in London. You can pop in most Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons to share a tiny ritual with me (I’m next there 30th & 31st). I’m also running a crossover workshop there next month:
I’m very happy with We Built this City on Rock and Coal, our climate crisis hopepunk improv and science show that toured the island of Ireland last month. We’ve applied for funding for 2025 and we have a few extra gigs later this year.
I’m really excited to be teaching at the UK’s dedicated writers’ retreat Arvon for a week this winter. I’ve been a punter there several times and it’s really helped my writing practice. I’m joining forces with the excellent Chris Thorpe - and special guest Rachel Mars - to explore different approaches and methods. We’ll be working with improvisation for performance while staying in the beautiful surroundings of the Hurst in Shropshire.
I’ve run some fun, useful coaching and teaching sessions since I’ve been back and I’m here if you are looking for help with your improv group or writing project: especially in the run-up to Edinburgh Fringe.
