Weird and Eerie Improv

Advanced classes and intensives

A weird and eerie landscape. Can you spot my dog, Pooka?

I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.

News

It’s been a pretty good few months (with the exception of a stressful and expensive house leak and a trip to A&E). The travel and the sea swims have been delightful. I’m particularly proud of getting to grips with riding a bike and playing one of my favourite shows in years at Flock Festival in Amsterdam. I led a lovely cohort through Fantasy Improv at Bristol Improv Theatre, recorded the second series of an excellent podcast and I’m heading into the last few weeks of writing my Folklore Studies MA dissertation.

This Saturday, I’m teaching the Weird and the Eerie in London. I didn’t know if this obscure folkloric, cultural theory topic in improv would pick up any students, but happily I have enough! There are a few tickets left if you’d like to join us. We’ll be experimenting with creating atmospheric scenes, playing with what should be there and isn’t and what is there and shouldn’t be. We’ll set our scenes in strange landscapes and mess a little with deep time… If you like folk horror, cosmic horror or the uncanny in general, this is a glorious deep dive.

My Black Mirror weekend intensive in September just has two tickets remaining. If you’d like to look at escalation, fear of technology and personal relationships in your improv, this might be a fun one. You don’t need to know about science fiction or the source material to come along.
