New Classes on Sale!
And a little love for The Ice at the End of the World
HELLO
I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.
News
I play the titular Ranger Rae in this wonderful National Trust / FunKids podcast about nature! A whole series has just come out. Click on the image to listen.
My play, The Ice at the End of the World finished on Saturday after a three week run at Omnibus Theatre. I had an amazing time, am super proud of my writing and performances and am taking a few days to land and reflect.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Theatre and Tonic
“…a play that keeps pace and momentum consistent as it leads to its horrifying conclusion.“
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spy in the Stalls
“Its lens is panpsychist, probing the boundaries of consciousness and power, and flirting with the liminal spaces between Human and Nature, and where Art disrupts these fabrics… I could not recommend this show enough.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ LondonTheatre1
“A thought-provoking yet entertaining production."
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ London Pub Theatres
“An impressive and ambitious production that delivers on all fronts.”

WRITE YOUR SOLO SHOW (online) from 18 November 2024
I’ve now had time to put up new courses including the ever-popular Write Your Solo Show which just has three tickets left! It’s an online class helping you to work through the conception, evolution and writing/making of your solo show. Three tickets left at the time of writing.
IMPROVISATION WITH FOLKLORE (London) 20 November 2024
I was an artist-in-residence at Treadwell’s (occult) bookshop over the summer and ran this class with a delightful mix of pagans, new and experienced improvisers, historians and curious others. It went super well and I’m delighted to be doing it again.
RESIDENTIAL: WRITING FOR PERFORMANCE (Shropshire) 2 - 7 December 2024
I’m really excited to be teaching at the UK’s dedicated writers’ retreat Arvon for a week this winter. I’ve been a punter there several times and it’s really helped my writing practice. I’m joining forces with the excellent Chris Thorpe - and special guest Rachel Mars - to explore different approaches and methods. We’ll be working with writing for performance while staying in the beautiful surroundings of the Hurst in Shropshire.
THE MYTHIC IMPROV JOURNEY (online) from 3 February 2025
This course has sold out for the past four years and birthed two in-person retreats! I’m excited to run it again in 2025. It’s a nourishing online social group, working with self-enquiry, pair work and long form improvisation. We go on a year-long journey via eight solar and agricultural festivals. We learn about folklore, tradition, beliefs and practices, then use improv as a tool for expression, community-building and fun. I’m a Folklorist-in-training at the University of Hertfordshire and I’ve studied various pagan paths since my 20s. Combining these worlds is an honour and a treat!
