Katy Schutte: Improv and Theatre

News from Katy Schutte

It's me, Katy

The new normal

Gosh, that photo above was taken less than two weeks ago when I was doing maybe the last improv festival the world saw. Mama City happened in Cape Town, South Africa and was excellent. I came from Italy where the Rome International Improv Festival got cancelled hours after I arrived. I got out of both countries two days before those cities went into lockdown.

Like many artists and other freelancers I know, we are needing to adapt the nature of our work. If you need help with acting, writing or improv projects, take a look at some of the things I offer below, or get in touch.

I posted a picture of my daily routine on Instagram (before the pandemic) and had a lot of questions about it. I've since written a blog and now seems like a better time than ever to share that with you.

Develop your solo show

I'd love to help you to write your solo show. If it's always been an ambition, but you don't know where to start, or you're getting on with it, but it needs some work, I'm here to help. I'm happy to work with individuals, or will offer a group class if there's interest.

Acting and voiceover

I have a home studio and I've been recording voiceovers for clients over the last few weeks. I've also shot a corporate film on Zoom. If you have something that requires an actor and which I can film or record at home, I'd be happy to help.

Buy my book!

As you're on this email list, you probably have The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook, but if you don't, it's on sale at Nick Hern Books right now.The Improviser's Way »

Online coaching

I'm currently coaching improv online for The Maydays/Nursery. Pop into my class on Friday at 5pm, keep an eye on my Facebook page to see when I'm leading another session or get in touch to set up your own.Drop-in improv classes »

If you don't need me for any of the above, but you'd like to help, consider donating to the improv theatres I work with:

This is probably a great time to remind you that there are around 70 episodes of our improvised comedy podcast Destination still out there in the world. You can find it on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, or play it off the website with added blurb, images and special episodes.
