Katy Schutte: Improv and Other News October

News and Improv Classes from Katy Schutte

Hi Friend!

I’m writing this in sunny Zürich where I am an artist in residence at Theatre Ida with my friend and improv partner Rachel Blackman.

I’m at the inception of some new shows; some scripted, some improvised. I’m excited to be teaching a course in horror and running The Mythic Improv Journey again throughout 2022. Details and links are below.

The Maydays Retreat is happening for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic! It sold out very quickly and has a giant waiting list. I cannot wait to teach and perform at the new venue and have all of the improv retreat fun.

Online Improv Classes

From 6th October:Exploring Horror!

An improv class exploring the narratives, tropes and characters of horror to expand your longform improv practice. This is a 6-week online course 7-9pm every Wednesday and it’s not just for horror nerds.

Throughout 2022:Mythic Improv Journey

I started running these in January and both me and the students have found it profound and life-affirming to mark the seasons, work with myths and stories and use longform as a celebratory ritual.

Zürich

As I mentioned at the start, Rach and I are here in Zürich as artists in residence at Theatre Ida. I’ve already been teaching and we’ve done a bunch of shows. We have more shows you can check out if you’re local.

Totally co-incidentally, I’m in Switzerland again in a few weeks’ time at an improv festival with Project2, performing a science fiction show and teaching a live class.

Live Shows in London

Knightmare Live! 29th October

Thrillingly, this nerdy choose-your-own adventure stage show is back at the end of the month! It’s a comedy take on the 80s-90s British TV show Knightmare.

Screamplay, 31st October

I’m very excited (and a little scared) to be doing my first ‘solo’ improv show this Halloween. It’s a live stage horror show in collaboration with Anna Kemp, Jordan Paul Clarke and Bristol Improv Theatre.

Thanks for reading. Stay cool.
