Katy Schutte: Improv and Other News for February
News from Katy Schutte
Hi ,
Hiya! I hope you’re well.
And Breathe…
a little update from me
Thanks to everyone who supported The Galaxicle Implosions by coming along to one of the live shows, watching online or guesting in VR. We learned a lot and we are all sad that the first phase is over. Hopefully we get to explore it more in the future.
The Mythic Improv Journey classes sold out. We had a blast on Monday and the second one starts tonight…
I joined the Track 96 team recently to up my hiphop improv game. They are all very lovely and talented. If you’re in London, they’re playing at Hoopla on Friday night and at the Edinburgh International Improv Festival on 18th February.
I’m disappearing for some focussed writing time over the next 10 days. I’m heading to Arvon where I hope to write but I’m also letting myself stare at trees if that’s what my brain needs…
Advanced Longform Experiment
14th - 17th March, London
Once a year I love to teach an intensive class over four days to work on all the stuff that I’ve been mulling over, but that doesn’t have a place in the other classes or shows I’m involved in. We have done different explorations over the years. The focus this time will be on word, speech and language choices, bold staging and ensemble work.
The experience is a bit like a rehearsal room where I’m directing a company. You’ll get notes, we’ll work as a team and we’ll go down any rabbit holes we are drawn to. There’s space for you to bring what you’re working towards too. Click on the button for more information and to book. Places are limited to 12 participants.
Play Like Brené
19th March, online
I’m a Brené Brown fan. She is a shame researcher who has become famous for her work on vulnerability and courage since a break-out TED talk. I have gamefied a lot of her work with improv exercises and there’s time for self-reflection too. This class is with Queen City Comedy.
Hoopla Courses
Various dates and levels, London
I’m a Head Teacher with Hoopla and I have always loved the ethos of community, inclusion and fun that comes with the company. I’ll be teaching courses in Scenes, Longform and the Harold over the Spring and Summer. Take a look at these on the Hoopla website. There are only 1-3 tickets left for each.
Dead British Radio Show
These are still coming out on Thursdays at 7pm on Union JACK Radio. You can listen back to my Florence Nightingale episode on the podcast and I’ll show up in some future ones too.
Thanks for reading. I got some new tea!
