Katy Schutte: Improv and Other News, August

News from Katy Schutte

Hi ,

Welcome!

If you’re new here: I’m a writer, improviser and theatre-maker.

Improv classes are at the top of this newsletter and there’s some news further down the email. Do get in touch if you want to ask me anything.

Improv Classes

The Improviser’s Way

12 weeks (online) from 15th September

I wrote an improv book about 5 years ago that was first made as a crowd-funding project, then got published and put in all the bookshops and theatres by Nick Hern Books. It’s a 12 week course in longform improv to supplement your current practice no matter what level you’re at. It’s both a book club and an improv class.

5-Day Advanced Improv Intensive

22nd - 26th August, Bristol

This is SOLD OUT, but if you missed it, pop yourself down on the waiting list just in case. Chris and I will be doing a Project2 show that week too if you’re in town.

There’s also another Play Like Brené course in London in November.

News

Sideliners

Over the last couple of weeks, our web series Sideliners has picked up some more official selections at film festivals. Here’s our trailer if you’d like to have a gander.

Sideliners Teaser

The Arctic Circle show

I’m thrilled that the first of my funding/grant bids was successful, meaning I have some financially supported time to work on the play inspired by my residency in The Arctic Circle. Huge thanks to the Peggy Ramsay Foundation for their support.

Track 96 in Edinburgh

I’ll be up at Edinburgh Fringe next week performing hip hop improv show The RAPture with Track 96. What a treat!

Fringe Recommendations

If you’re going to Edinburgh Fringe this year, there are thousands of shows to choose from. Despite being intensely worried about who I might leave out, here a few that I recommend: Buffy: Revamped, Baby Wants Candy, Shamilton, Unfortunate: The Untold Story of Ursula the Sea Witch, Stacey Solo, After Dusk: The Improvised Twilight Zone, Spontaneous Potter, RuneSical, Crone (plus the following shows from artists who did my Write Your Solo Show course - ) Lil Saffron: Ragu to Riches, Deaf Ears, About Time.

I’m excited to be teaching and performing at other festivals this year in Nottingham, Birmingham, Zürich and Winnipeg. I’ll keep you posted as they come around.

I’m not sponsored by these people, but bought things here recently and there are some discount codes if you’re (in the UK) and interested!

Have a totally badass day.
