Katy Schutte: Improv and Other May 2020
News from Katy Schutte
Hello again, it's Katy
We got bigger and smaller
For almost all of us our world has reduced to the inside of our homes and the nearest bit of ground where we can take a leafy walk. That's in the Real. In the Virtual we are more connected than ever. The huge clash between the small and the global are mild-altering; sometimes exciting and beautiful, sometimes overwhelming and anxiety-inducing.
The main lesson I've learned is that I am resourceful and I am connected. I was very lucky to turn around enough of an income to stay afloat, even though all of my work has changed completely and I'm learning almost from scratch. I got my first Arts Council England grant in a long time and that will be an enormous help; the difference between yes-ing everything because money and being able to have more creative time and choices with less guilt and less stress.
My last blog was an outpouring of feelings, attempting to contextualise what's happening with improv online. Though it was only published two weeks ago, a lot has changed since. Perhaps it's a useful litmus for where we are today.
Write Your Solo Show
Two 8-week courses have sold out; the first in just a few hours. We're having a great time, people already have amazing ideas and great material. I have a waiting list that's big enough to fill another course, so get in touch if you'd like to join the list for the next one.

As you're on this email list, you probably have The Improviser's Way: A Longform Workbook, but if you don't, it's on sale at Nick Hern Books right now.The Improviser's Way »

I've mostly switched over to courses now (all sold out), but if you'd like to do some improv with me this month you can join me at the Maydays/Nursery drop-in on Wednesday at 10am or in the group scenes workshop hosted by Westside Comedy Theatre on 16th May.
As for entertainment... Tony and I have started making new episodes of the Destination podcast. You can find it on iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts, or play it off the website with added blurb, images and special episodes.
