HELLO
I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.

Below you can find ticket links to my London weekend intensive in January, a long form day in Liverpool and the Mythic Improv Journey in 2025. There are also beginner improv courses starting in January.
Lots of people have genuinely been asking me ‘what’s next?’ and it’s been interesting framing my reply. Part of the answer is nothing because a writing intensive I was teaching this week was cancelled. But part of the answer is also that I’m doing my MA in Folklore, teaching classes, strategising for 2025 and getting to all the tasks I haven’t had time for. Typically, I underestimated the amount of energy it takes to do a show two years in the making, to play three improv festivals immediately afterwards and to move house somewhere in the middle. I’m now working with Brené Brown’s guidepost ‘letting go of exhaustion as a status symbol and productivity as self-worth’ and ‘cultivating play and rest’. For December at least.
But… I moved to the seaside! I’m living in an old fisherman’s cottage on the beach and opposite a wooded park. I have a wood-burning stove, a knitting group and a community garden! There’s even an exciting improv scene in Folkestone run by Lucy Trodd and Jason Delplanque who I’ve had the pleasure of working with on previous projects.

Advanced Improv Classes
BUILDING WORLDS: AN ADVANCED LONG FORM WEEKEND
(London) 11th & 12th January 2025
I’ve just published this intensive and you’re the first to know! I’m excited to experiment with a group of long form nerds to build something vibrant and interesting. We’ll be at the lovely Umbrella Rooms in central London challenging our work in ensemble, authentic scenes and structured/discovered form.
THE MYTHIC IMPROV JOURNEY (online) from 3 February 2025
This course has sold out for the past four years and birthed two in-person retreats! I’m excited to run it again in 2025. It’s a nourishing online social group, working with self-enquiry, pair work and long form improvisation. We go on a year-long journey via eight solar and agricultural festivals. We learn about folklore, tradition, beliefs and practices, then use improv as a tool for expression, community-building and fun. I’m a Folklorist-in-training at the University of Hertfordshire and I’ve studied various pagan paths since my 20s. Combining these worlds is an honour and a treat!
IMPROV INTENSIVE (Liverpool) 10th February 2025
I’m being hosted by the wonderful David Escobedo and Paul Quinn in bringing this one-day intensive to Liverpool. There are just two places left as I write this.
I’m doing a bunch of improv coaching and consulting on scripted shows in 2025.
If you’d like a bespoke session for your team, you can get me in London, Folkestone(!) or online. Later in the year I’ll be travelling, so try me from anywhere in the world.
