Improv Girl Summer

New advanced classes and intensives

I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.

I’m excited to be writing this in a hotel room in County Mayo, Ireland where we begin our 2025 rehearsals and tour for We Built This City on Rock and Coal. It’s an improvised hopepunk climate crisis comedy show with built-in scientists and sustainability experts. The project began in 2022 when Jessamyn Fairfield and I talked about our residencies on the Arctic Circle Program and discussed how we could use our skills to create positive change. We did a recce in 2022, a pilot show in 2023, an Ireland tour in 2024 and we’re back again to tour rural communities in Ireland this summer.

I’m hard at work writing my Folklore Studies MA thesis and my research has led me to design a new improv workshop covering the Weird and the Eerie. In designing some shows for an improv school, I also got excited about Black Mirror and how escalation, fear and personal relationships can be explored in this science fiction setting. You can find these new offerings - and more - classes below.
