HELLO

I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.

The Ice at the End of the World

NEWS

Right now I’m a week into rehearsals for my play The Ice at the End of the World. I was an artist in residence on a boat in the Arctic Circle in 2022 where this project was conceived. I spent the last year or two writing and now the show is taking shape ready for a run from 25th September to 12th October at the Omnibus Theatre in London. It’s a cosmic horror with a cast of four (including me) and you can get tickets here.

The Winchesters at Karlsruhe Improv Festival

Before I list festival and class dates, I just want to do a shout-out for the improv festivals in Lisbon and Karlsruhe where I was part of the Main Cast recently. I’m extremely grateful to be able to do the kind of work that pushes and celebrates long form improvisation!

IMPROV AND WRITING CLASSES

I had a super great time being resident artist at Treadwell’s bookshop over the last couple of months. I ran an Improvisation with Folklore class with a mix of pagans, improvisers, folklorists and others which went super well and Treadwell’s have asked me to repeat the class as it was sold out:

@ Arvon, Shropshire 2-7 December 2024

I’m really excited to be teaching at the UK’s dedicated writers’ retreat Arvon for a week this winter. I’ve been a punter there several times and it’s really helped my writing practice. I’m joining forces with the excellent Chris Thorpe - and special guest Rachel Mars - to explore different approaches and methods. We’ll be working with improvisation for performance while staying in the beautiful surroundings of the Hurst in Shropshire.
