Great Reviews for The Ice at the End of the World!
Plus improv & other news
HELLO
I’m Katy Schutte. I probably met you in a workshop or at a show somewhere. I’m a writer, improviser, performer and teaching artist with a special interest in folklore, neo-paganism and nature.
NEWS
My play The Ice at the End of the World is up and running at Omnibus Theatre. I was an artist in residence on a boat with the Arctic Circle Project in 2022 where this project was conceived. It’s a cosmic horror with a cast of four (including me) and you can get tickets here.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Theatre and Tonic
“There are many links to works such as The Thing, The Last Winter and Underwater as well as references to Sami and Finnish mythology and some minor references to the stories of Spitsbergen itself. These inspirations and the themes are very well woven together in a play that keeps pace and momentum consistent as it leads to its horrifying conclusion… If you enjoy taut thrillers, hints of the supernatural and existential horror then I recommend this play to you.“
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spy in the Stalls
“The Ice at the End of the World is endlessly resourceful. Its lens is panpsychist, probing the boundaries of consciousness and power, and flirting with the liminal spaces between Human and Nature, and where Art disrupts these fabrics. It is also a warning: a warning that the planet will avenge its destruction at the hands of human beings; a warning that the permanence of the Earth will forever haunt the exploits of mere mortals, no matter what their contributions… I could not recommend this show enough.”

“…the show demonstrates the dangers of blindly accepting supposedly expert knowledge. A thought-provoking yet entertaining production."

IMPROV AND WRITING CLASSES
I’ll be launching the next round of Write Your Solo Show and Mythic Improv Journey classes soon. If you’re interested in developing your own theatre show, or celebrating the wheel of the year through an improv lens, pop me an email ([email protected]) and I’ll give you early access…
I had a super great time being resident artist at Treadwell’s bookshop over the summer. I ran an Improvisation with Folklore class with a mix of pagans, improvisers, folklorists and others which went super well and Treadwell’s have asked me to repeat this sell-out class!
I’m really excited to be teaching at the UK’s dedicated writers’ retreat Arvon for a week this winter. I’ve been a punter there several times and it’s really helped my writing practice. I’m joining forces with the excellent Chris Thorpe - and special guest Rachel Mars - to explore different approaches and methods. We’ll be working with writing for performance while staying in the beautiful surroundings of the Hurst in Shropshire.
Thanks for reading. Come see my play!
